Saturday 10/9
The first Group One of the Spring, the Manikato Stakes, is the highlight of tomorrow's racing from Moonee Valley and Rosehill.
Moonee Valley
Race 1: Line Account
Hasn't been far away in two runs this prep and drops considerably in class. Mick Price and Noel Callow combination.
Race 2: No Bet
Nothing I like in this race.
Race 3: Maybe Better
Has always given impression longer distance will suit and steps up to 1500m here. In form apprentice B. Melham rides for the astute Brian Mayfield-Smith. Each way.
Race 4: Mr Sandgroper
Good quality WA galloper who has been a consistent G1 performer over there. Gets in nicely after 3 Kg claim. Outstanding second up record, two wins from three starts. Will want it dry however. Each way.
Race 5: Pinezero
I love Virage De Fortune, but I can't recommend taking the $1.80 on offer. Therefore, we will go for the consistent filly Pinezero on an each way basis. You can be sure she will give a good show. Captain Callow on board.
Race 6: Lad of the Manor
Now, we all know how good Makybe Diva's first up run was, but, I think LOTM will be too good for her here. Simply, it is my belief that LOTM will take a midfield position and Makybe will be at the back that makes me put LOTM on top. I don't think Makybe has the accelleration to run him down. LOTM loves the Valley and the distance as well.
Race 7: Our Egyptian Raine
I think this is the one she will finally break through. Outstanding first up record, loves the Valley, high class consistent performer. Just has a habit of running second. WINNING a barrier trial recently (she had a habit of running second in those as well) as well as excellent recent trackwork mean that she is well worth backing on an each way basis.
Race 8: Storm Alert
Classy Freedman mare looking for a bit further, and she finally gets it. Was in the three way photo with Hollow Bullet and Kylikwong in the 2004 VRC Oaks. Very open race with a number of chances. Each way.
Race 9: Raid the Royals
Was very impressive last Spring culminating in Listed win at Flemington, before subsequent disappointing failure at same track. Has shown excellent ability and has great first up record. With 59 Kg will not be easy, in another really open race.
Rosehill:
Race 2: Kings Pride
Outclassed in Golden Rose but back to CL3 level here. Race has already proved a strong formline.
Race 4: No tip - just don't back Mystery City. Lay of the day.
Race 5: Railings
This is a very, very, smart stayer. Gets a little more distance here, and should be able to handle the class. Not badly treated at the weights, in the race named for the legendary Kingston Town.
Race 7: One In A Million
Smart type who was only beaten by Lotteria first time in. Group level placed, from smart stable, and has Dazzling Darren up.
Race 8: Perfect Promise
Won at G2 level in Autumn then ran outstanding second in Stradbroke, and should have won the Winter Stakes with half an ounce of luck. Outstanding first up record. Bet of the day.
Best of luck punters.
