Birdsville races

Returned from another great trip although no races to go to but just shows that us Aussies will go to great lenghts to have a good time.
24 of us travelled nearly 4000 ks to a race meeting that we knew from the Tuesday wasnt on.We continued on to help people live there dream of going to the outback and seeing a unique part of the world.
We made our own fun and had horse races outside the pub all but wooden ones which were cheered home by the crowd which numbered i would thing between 2500 to 3000.Seemed to me that people drove out or flew out and then turned around and went back to there homes as place did seem to empty out n the Saturday. My crew stayed until the Sunday.
Thanks to all that went with me and who knows may do it all again next year.

Birdsville bash report.

Another very succesful trip out to the 125th running of the other great cup. This event is truly a great Aussie icon and MUST be kept going to help us keep our Aussie traditions alive.Where else in the worl would 8000 people travel to the extreme outback to witness a 2 day race carnival. and pay for the privelege of doing it.

This year i took out 31 people of various ages and sex,who all had one thing in common they wanted to witness first hand this unique event. Some seemed to be a bit lost in the event but most seemed to enjoy the trip and joined in the events that are held in this dusty rocky outback town.
Again our coach performed grandly and is a credit to Polleys of Gympie and a great coach captain in Garfield..
Thanks to all who made the effort i appreciated your support.

Cheers
Barney

Birdsville bash report

This is for anyone who has any interest in this great Aussie icon.
Where else in the world would 4 to 5 thousand people travel for 2 to 3 days to attend a 2 day race meeting. This is what happens on the 1st saturday in september every yearBirdsville is about 1750 ks west of brisbane close to the Sa border.
This year i travelled out for the 11 time and following is my pharase of the trip.I will be only to glad to answer any questions on the event you people have.

We left on Monday 30th from the Sunshine coast travelling via dalby then on to Charleville where we stayed overnight in the Walzing matilda motel.Had the biggest and tenderest steak at the Charleville hotel.Enroute we stopped at Muckadilla for an ale and lunch at Miles Queensland hotel.
On the Tuesday we travelled to Quilpe where we had good old fashioned country hospitaly and attended the Kadangadang festival and a great time was had by all.
We left on the Wednesday morning and stopped for breakfast at Windorah and then on to Birdsville via the Sa border .
Our journey into Birdsville was uneventful and arrived at about 4pm where we set up our camp in the local caravan park.
After a meal supplied by Robs catering we visited the famous hotel the sat around our campfire and enjoyed a beautiful night under the stars.

On the thursday which was a free day most of the group visited the working museum with the general opinion being fantastic.
On the friday a calcutta was held on the main race of the day then off to the races by Coach supplied by greyhound for a $2 donation of which half goes to the flying doctor.
On friday night a dinner dance was held at the rec hall and a disco was on at the pub.My group attended the boxing tent where our driver had a fight against kid Valentine unfortunately he lost and had to wear the clown uniform for the Saturday an award gven to to the erson who had the best or worst day before.
On the saturday it was another calcutta on the cup the off to the races which were held in a blinding dust storm which only added to the atmosphere.
We had a jockey travelling with us and he had 3 rides for 3 placings.
Chris Maund rode the winner and Jason Patton also had a ride.
On the saturday night an old time dance was held i stayed at the camp and renewed old friendships and made many new ones in a happy party atmosphere.
The mass exodus started on the sunday with us being the only coach left to enjoy a quiet relaxing sundayWe left for home on the monday and arrived back on the coast about 6.30pm on the tuesday. My coach were all supplied with polo shirts to remind them of the great experience .T he shirts and insiderail stubby holders were printed by gyro screen printers and anyone wishing to get shirts printed can contact him on email gyrosp@bigpond.net.au.
The cost for this trip this year including most meals and shirts was only $580 everyone voted it the best trip ever.
As i stated earlier i will be only to glad to answer any question i can be contacted thru this site.

Countdown to Birdsville

Well into countdown mode now so will post a few updates for those of you who have always wanted to travel to this Aussie adventure.
Birdsville is approx 1750 ks west of Brisbane close to the Sa border and has a normal population in the whole district of 103, this swells to between 4000 to 6000 for the annual first Saturday in September race meeting.
People get there by various means including Planes busiest airport in Australia on the Saturday morning, Cars mainly 4wds and like us Coaches. For the first time and this is my eleventh trip we have a sold out trip .On my trip we have people flying in from Victoria one from Perth and two Kiwis of all age groups.
The most common asked question to me is what is there to do out there, it has the most fascinating museum that i have seen a boxing tent is operation plus street stalls and of course the world famous Birdsville hotel.Entertainment at night from bands at the pub with a Friday dinner dance and Saturday ball and Friday and Saturday race meeetings the cup itself is worth $25000 this year and attracts a good field .
Anyone with any questions feel free to ask and i will answer them on my return also will attempt to post some photos

Barney's Birdsville Races Trip

Still have a few vacancies for the annual trip out to the famous outback races in September. We leave the Sunshine Coast on 29/8 and return 6/9 travel by air-conditioned coach (non smoking). All accomodation and most meals included in price.

People from other areas most welcome as arrangements for storing of cars can be made and there are cheap flights available to Maroochydore. I've been told it is cheaper for people from Vic to fly up and go out with us than go direct from there.

Can be paid for out of the winnings from my tips. :)
