c1 class one
2 is class two and so on.
Mo is a maiden in town
m1 has won one metro meeting

R0 is restricted maiden
R1 Is class one at restricted races and so on.

2yos -
2A0 (0wins)
2A1 (1wins)
2A2 (2wins)
2A3 (3wins) and so on!

You are allowed 2 2yo wins before they affect your class when you are a three year old.
So a 2yo ending the season as a 2A3 starts there 3yo season as a 3A1.
2A4 - 3A2 eg.

And then once a 3yo is a 3A2 each further win counts as a C win. So a three year old ending its 3yo career as a 3A2 = C0, 3A3 = C1 eg

Or a 2A5 who doesnt win as 3yo will be a C1 4yo!

3yos can race in C races!
C0 (Nil wins as 4yo+)
C1 (One win as 4y0+ or one carry over win from 3yo/2yo days.)
C2
C3
eg

C stands for Country.
MA race for 2yo 3yos is metro
A race for 2yos 3yos is country.
R is restricted!

M0 (no metro wins)
M1 (1 metro win)
so on

Restricted win doesnt affect country or metro class.
A country win affects restricted class but not metro class
A metro win affects both restricted and country class.

so a R0 C0 M0 horse wins a R0. He is then R1, C0, M0.
He then wins C0 race. he is R2 C1 M0
He then races some more and becomes R8 C7 M0. He goes to a metro race and wins . He is now a R9 C8 M1.

The other class not mentioned is for trotters when they race against pacers - had this asked to me the other day actually and pretty sure this is right

With trotters, their Country Assessment is based on how many Metro races they have won

For example, a TM1 (winner of one metro trotters race) can race in a C1 and a TM2 can race in a C2 against the pacers. If they haven't won a Metro race they can go round in a CO race regardless of how many Country races they have won

Why does trotters race against pacers? Is it because of a lack of options for them? I notice there are hardly any races for them usually.

Exactly, plus some of them hate stand starts and most trotters races are stands so racing against pacers is their only option to start from the mobile

Trainers also put them in to try and increase their speed by racing in quicker races

Trotters are also usually better stayers so will find in most cases they finish races off well against pacers.

I just went and had a look at the career of Sumthingaboutmaori - a trotter
After winning a TM0 she was a TM1. so in keeping with what Tassie Bulldog said she races in a C1. she then won that, she is a C2, won her next C race she is a C3 and then won another so she is a C4. Then, after going onto win 6 minumum which would make her a C10, c4 t 6 would = C10. however then she races in a C4-C5 and wins, beats some handy horses as well!
So i think your rule is for the first time they are nominated for C race but from there on end its what they do against C company.

Theres much less trotters, i dont know if its lack of options is a major factor in racing against the pacers (in Vic at least) , its more not liking stand start, although simple option is too sell imho..

Thats right PP, I actually noticed during the week that a trotter called Brite Hope went round against the pacers and was only a TM1 but was classified as a C2 as had also won a C1 race against the pacers previously.

Based on that, if a trotter has won 2 metro trot races and 2 country races against the pacers it would be a C4 as opposed to a trotter who had only won 2 metro trot races would still be eligible to race in a C2 against the pacers

Reckon I managed to confuse everybody there
